Growing Hope and Caring for Communities Across East Africa

From planting trees in schools and health centres to supporting vulnerable children and families, a series of community initiatives across Tanzania and Uganda is demonstrating how collaboration and service can create meaningful change.

Planting Today for a Greener Tomorrow

In Dar es Salaam, a Tree Planting Project, implemented in partnership with the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Sunset, focused on creating greener and healthier environments for school communities.

Fruit and shade trees were planted at three primary schools across the city: Oysterbay Primary School and Mbezi Juu Primary School in Kinondoni District, and Charambe Primary School in Temeke District.

Beyond improving the school environment, the initiative encourages young learners to understand the importance of trees, environmental conservation and caring for the spaces in which they live and learn. As the trees grow, they will provide much-needed shade while fruit trees can offer an additional benefit to the school communities.

The tree planting initiative also extended to Eastern Uganda, reaching both educational and healthcare institutions. Activities were conducted at Bukigai Health Centre III and Bukigai Primary School in Bududa District, as well as Nabbongo Secondary School and Nabbongo Primary School in Bulambuli District.

NBS Media covered the activities across the participating schools and health centres, helping to raise awareness of the initiative and the importance of community involvement in environmental action.
